Lahore (General Reporter): An important meeting was held under the chairmanship of Health Secretary Ali Jan Khan to formulate procedures for identification of unknown and unrecognized patients. The meeting was attended by Additional Secretary Technical Asim Altaf and Additional Secretary Dr Hafiz Shahid Latif, Director HISDU. The Department of Health and NADRA will jointly develop a biometric system for the identification of unidentified patients and unidentified bodies, for which a Memorandum of Understanding has been signed between the Department of Health and NADRA. According to the details, 48 teaching hospitals, 26 district headquarters hospitals and 120 tehsil headquarters hospitals managed by the health department are considering possible modalities for identifying unidentified persons. The NADRA delegation also visited the Command and Control Center, HISDU and Surveillance Room. On the occasion, Health Secretary Ali Jan Khan said that the health department would provide all possible resources to set up a system to identify unidentified patients and deceased persons. Ali Jan Khan, health secretary for drug addicts, mental patients and AIDS, said the health department would provide all possible resources to create a system to identify unidentified patients and the dead. Drug addicts, the mentally ill, AIDS patients and all other homeless people will also be registered under the system and a system of regular health screening of prison inmates will be introduced in the near future.
