Lahore (Mudasir Qadeer) A seminar on Endocrinology was held in Fatima Jinnah Medical University under the chairmanship of Vice Chancellor Prof. Khalid Masood Gondal, while consultant endocrinologists from the United Kingdom Prof. Shalit and Dr. Asad Rahim participated as special guests on this occasion. Vice-Chancellor Prof. Shamsa Ehamayun, Registrar Prof. Mohammad Nadeem, Deans Prof. Dr. Muniza Qayyum, Prof. Dr. Manzah Iqbal, Director Quality Enhancement Cell Prof. Dr. Balqis Shabbir, Prof. Dr. Muhammad Naeem Afzal, Prof. Dr. Balqis Akhtar, Prof. Khadija Irfan, Dr. Bilal Azim Butt. , Heads of Departments, faculty members and a large number of undergraduate students were also present. In the welcome address, Vice Chancellor Fatima Jinnah Medical University Professor Dr. Khalid Masood Gondal thanked both the chief guests. He said that the subject of endocrinology is very important. Our guests today will discuss growth hormone deficiency in youth and primary hyperparathyroidism and vitamin D deficiency in detail. In his speech on this occasion, Dr. Asad Rahim said that vitamin D deficiency causes rickets in children, which weakens the bones of children. In young people, vitamin D causes osteomalacia, which causes the bones to become soft. At the end of his address, he said that vitamin D deficiency is more common in women than men, so women as well as men should maintain normal levels of vitamin D and consume foods that contain vitamin D. During his address at the seminar, Prof. Shalit gave a detailed briefing on growth hormone deficiency in youth. He said that growth hormone deficiency occurs when the pituitary gland does not produce growth hormone. It affects children more than young adults. In this regard, he also mentioned the research publications and informed about the diagnosis and treatment. At the end of the event, there was a question and answer session, which contained very important information for both students and teachers. Medals and certificates were distributed to the students who secured prominent positions in the poster competition organized by the Director of Oric Department, Dr. Ezra Mehmood. The first position was won by Iqbal of the final year. The second position was won by Umira Ahmed and Arij Fatima of the final year. The third position was won by Faqiha Nasir of the final year. After the ceremony, the Chief Guests visited State of the Art Institute, Fatima Jinnah Institute of Mother and Child Health along with Vice Chancellor Prof. Khalid Masood Gondal and faculty and were impressed by the world class services of this institution.
