KABUL: In two separate incidents in Afghanistan’s Nangarhar province, attackers indiscriminately opened fire on female polio workers, killing three polio workers.
According to Afghan media, a nationwide polio campaign is underway during which three female polio officers were shot dead by unidentified gunmen in two separate incidents.
The first incident of firing took place in Majboorabad district of Jalalabad where armed men on motorcycles shot dead a female worker who was vaccinating children from house to house.
Just an hour after the first incident, two female polio workers were shot dead by unidentified gunmen in Lal Qasim Agha area of Jalalabad.
The dead women have been identified as Basira, Samina and Nigina. No group has claimed responsibility for the attack. Afghanistan ranks first among polio-hit countries.
