An online meeting of the Steering Committee was held under the chairmanship of the Federal Secretary for National Food Security and Research regarding the prevention of Kata/PPR in Pakistan at the national level. Dr. Asif Sulaiman Sahi, Additional Secretary (Technical) from Punjab Livestock Department participated in the meeting along with the relevant officers. Director General (Research) Dr. Sajjad Hussain gave a briefing on the prevention of Kata disease in Punjab province. Director General (Research) said that quality vaccine production is very important for the prevention of this disease, for which the capacity of Veterinary Research Institute Lahore has been increased. Addressing the meeting, Additional Secretary (Technical) Dr. Asif Sulaiman Sahi clarified that there has been a clear reduction in the spread of Kata disease due to the vaccination campaign that has been going on for the past three years. Moreover, Punjab has an integrated disease surveillance system with the help of smart mobile application to enable timely disease diagnosis. He further said that the Livestock Department’s commitment is to rid Punjab of diseases like Kata, for which special committees have also been formed at the division level. Deputy Secretary (Technical) and Director Communication attended the meeting while Director General Livestock (South Punjab) participated online.
