The decision to hold Senate elections by secret ballot, as in the past
ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has decided to hold the Senate elections in the same manner as in the past due to lack of time.
According to media, a meeting was held under the chairmanship of the Chief Election Commissioner after the opinion of the Supreme Court on the presidential reference regarding the Senate elections in which it was decided to hold the Senate elections as in the past. This decision has been taken due to lack of time for the Senate elections. All steps will be taken to make the Senate elections transparent.
The Election Commission has not yet received a detailed opinion on the Supreme Court’s presidential reference, but the Election Commission has decided to act on the Supreme Court’s opinion in its spirit. In this regard, a three-member committee has been formed in the light of the opinion of the Supreme Court.
The committee will also seek help from NADRA, FIA and the Ministry of Information Technology. The technology use committee will make recommendations in 4 weeks.
It should be noted that the Senate elections are being held on Wednesday as per the schedule of the Election Commission. In this regard, the opinion of the Supreme Court on the presidential reference was also given yesterday.
