Gunmen attack prison in Nigeria, 1,800 prisoners escape
Abuja: In Nigeria, gunmen attacked a prison, as a result of which 1800 prisoners escaped.
According to a foreign news agency, gunmen stormed a jail in Nigeria’s Emo province, forcing 1,800 prisoners to escape. The attackers were armed with machine guns, rocket launchers and other heavy weapons, including grenades. And other military buildings were severely damaged.
Prison officials say operations are underway to arrest the escaped prisoners, but no group has yet claimed responsibility for the attack. Nigerian officials say the attack was carried out by a local group that was involved in such operations. He has been involved before but further investigations are underway.
