Pakistan decides to import sugar and cotton from India


Salamabad: The Economic Co-ordination Committee (ECC) has given permission to import sugar and cotton from India.

An important meeting of the ECC was held under the chairmanship of Finance Minister Hamad Azhar in which permission was granted to import 500,000 metric tonnes of sugar from India. The committee also allowed the private sector to import sugar from India.

According to sources in the Finance Ministry, permission was also given to import cotton yarn from India which could be imported till June 30, 2012. The meeting also approved technical supplementary grants for various ministries.
Technical supplementary grants were approved for other ministries including Federal Education and Vocational Training, Housing and Works, Petroleum and Privatization Commission.
