The first Executive Director of Punjab Institute of Neurosciences and a well-known neurosurgeon Prof. Dr. Khalid Mahmood has retired from his post on completion of his service. PGMI, Ameer Uddin Medical College & Lahore General Hospital Principal Prof. Dr. Muhammad Al-Fareed Zafar has announced to get Prof. Dr. Khalid Mehmood now as “Professor of Emeritus” in his Institution and said that he not only deserves this honor in the true sense but entitled more than that keeping in view his long standing work at PINS. These views were expressed by Prof. Al-Fareed Zafar while addressing the farewell ceremony held in honor of Prof. Khalid Mehmood at PINS Auditorium. Punjab Health Minister Prof. Javed Akram, Former Health Minister Khawaja Salman Rafiq, Chairman BoM Prof. Anjum Habib Vohra, Prof. Asif Bashir, Prof. Ghias-un-Nabi Tayyab, Prof. Tariq Salahuddin, VCs and Principals of various medical universities / colleges, professors, neurosurgeons, young doctors, nursing staff, paramedics and employees attended in a large number and highlighted the services of Prof. Khalid Mehmood.

Principal PGMI said that Prof. Khalid Mahmood has achieved good name at the international level by introducing new trends in neurosurgery and undoubtedly he added a new chapter in the neuro field. Especially in Pakistan he is founder of DBS method of treatment and with his this effort our patients no longer need to go abroad for treatment of Parkinson and this has blessed them with a new light of life. He further said that the treatment of Parkinson is very expensive and Pakistani patients could not even imagine getting it at abroad and now due to his efforts this treatment is available here as well. Prof. Javed Akram, Khawaja Salman Rafiq, Prof. Anjum Habib Vohra and Prof. Asif Bashir lauded the services of Prof. Khalid Mehmood and said that he played a long innings as an excellent neuro physician, medical teacher, and competent administrator. In the world of medicine, his innumerable students will continue his mission and will bring better name for PINS, they added. Medical teachers said that a doctor and medical teacher never retires as he has to continue to serve humanity throughout his life. The participants expressed the hope that Prof. Khalid Mahmood will still be putting his share to this sacred duty of teaching the young doctors and they will be getting benefit from his vast experience. It is worth mentioning that neurosurgeons from abroad also appreciated the services of Prof. Khalid Mahmood as online professional and called him a great asset in the health sector. MS Dr. Khalid Bin Aslam said that Prof. Khalid Mahmood as ED of PINS took revolutionary measures for the welfare of patients through ADP schemes and paid special attention to the provision of free medicines in Neurosciences institute. He said that indeed Prof. Khalid Mehmood abolished the system of ordering medicines from the market, which reduced the problems of the patients as well.
Prof. Khalid Mahmood said in his speech that he has served as the ED PINS for more than four years. He claimed that all his achievements, Sitara-e-Imtiaz and awarding of grade 21 were blessing from Allah Almighty. He said that before coming to Pakistan he left his carrier in USA and offers in other country which was his right decision. Prof. Khalid Mahmood thanked Prof. Asif Bashir and his team for the ceremony held in his honor and expressed his determination that he will continue to devote all his energies to further upgrade this Institution. At the end of the ceremony, Prof. Khalid Mahmood was presented with flowers by his colleagues while Prof. Khalid Mahmood visited and went to the beds of the patients individually and prayed for their speedy recovery.
