This beautiful European town will offer free accommodation to work-from-home workers

If you are currently working from home and this trend is likely to continue for the foreseeable future, then you can do so by moving to a beautiful location in Italy.

Since the covid-19 pandemic, work from home has become the norm for most of the people, that is, there is no need to go to the office, so they are trying to see the world along with their work.

Such people are also known as digital nomads who do their work by moving around the world. A town in the Italian region of Sardinia has introduced an interesting program for people from all over the world. Under this they can live there for free and do their work.

The program in a town called Ollolai was announced a few months ago and now the first person has arrived.

Clarese Partis, a 39-year-old software designer from America, came to the town under this program.

“I needed a change of pace from city life, what better place than this town with hills and beautiful beaches,” he said.

So why are digital nomads offered free accommodation?
The population of this picturesque town has been steadily declining, dropping from 2,250 to 1,300 over the past 100 years.

This is a problem that many regions of Italy are facing, and they are even offering houses for one euro to house people there.

Ollolai also introduced a one-euro housing scheme in 2018 which proved successful.

According to the town’s mayor, Francesco Columbu, ‘the scheme was very successful and many foreigners settled here’.

Now the mayor has introduced the Work from Ollolai program to make the town a hub for digital nomads.

20 thousand euros have been invested for this purpose and in the next 2 years the place will host several digital nomads.

Digital nomads have to apply on a website for this purpose by the end of December.

How is the experience of staying in this place?
Those who are part of the program will be given the opportunity to stay in houses that were previously owned by farmers, which will be converted into offices by the mayor and provided with high-speed internet connections.

The expenses like rent, utility bills and service tax of the people living in these houses will be borne by the local authorities, but the people will have to bear the cost of transport and food.

According to Clarese Partis, residents here welcome foreigners with open hearts.
